A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure to attend Skateboarding Street League at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey thanks to Estilo Skateboards. It was an honor to be there as both our companies do a lot to support the skateboard community as well as get to promote our brands, meet some pros and watch some watch some really difficult tricks get thrown. This was my second visit to SLS and although I feel last year’s was a bit more intense it was exciting to see Evan Smith who finished 3rd overall in previous years for the amateur division to compete with the pros on a more level playing field for his skill level. We had the chance to hook up a Boston local pro, Jereme Rogers with some Toaster Shades as well as getting to meet one of my favorite skaters, Sean Malto, in person. Overall the tricks continue to progress and push the level of technical skating which always increases our passion for the sport. We had a great view of the whole course from our seats so you never missed a trick. Chris Joslin, who is a young new skater to the scene truly stood out among the group.Luan Olivera, last year’s winner, was showing off his best flip in flip out tricks on the ledge but was unable to pull a win for a second year in a row. Evan Smith was certainly a crowd favorite
attempting the biggest gaps and a large 540 out of the quaterpipe he never seemed to stick. Nyjah Houston and Chris Cole always dominate the pack but in the end Nyjah proved to be the best in the late minutes of the heat to celebrate another 1st finish at SLS.
After the event we stopped at a local pizza shop, Il Pomodoro, where 2 employees were asking about the brand so we got some pictures with them. Great pizza and garlic knots! We then skated the area which had lots of skateable, low ledges and found a nice stair set which we left our mark on. Happy to be involved in the sport and have the opportunity to work with other companies just as excited about skating as we are. Thanks Estilo Skateboards for the invite and if you haven’t seen the boards yet I suggest you check them out.
